First Peer Review:

Latest Peer Review:
I have made significant improvements when it comes to peer reviewing with my classmates. At the beginning of the semester, I was feeling timid about giving feedback to my peers, because I wasn’t yet comfortable with being in class with everyone. I think that can definitely be seen with the screenshot of my first peer review, as I was avoiding constructive criticism and instead giving compliments and correcting grammar when reviewing Emily’s paper. I was correcting words such as “society-wide” and “gist” instead of giving feedback on the more important parts of her essay, such as the structure of her paragraphs or her analysis. After our first peer review, we had a discussion about the feedback we got in class. We were told to stay away from correcting grammar, as it’s not a useful thing to spend our time giving feedback on, and that giving feedback on analysis, structure and personal connections would be much more useful. After learning how to better provide peer review for my classmates, and becoming more comfortable with the class, I was able to give much more in-depth and helpful critiques. Rather than correcting grammar and giving compliments, it is visible in my most recent peer review that I am now able to give feedback on sentence structure and vocabulary choice, like when I suggested Ned changed the wording of one of his sentences to make it feel more like a piece of academic writing. I also helped my peers with identifying claims that got lost in the paragraph, as well as paragraph order and structure, when I recommended that Ned start his paragraph with his claim and moved his “I agree” statements to his body paragraphs. My peer reviewing process evolved greatly as I got more comfortable with my writing, and more confident in my own writing.
