Learning Outcome 1

Learning Outcome 1

My revision process has changed greatly from the beginning of the term until now. Through my work on my second essay, I was able to completely alter the way I revise and edit my drafts. Through my second essay, my original method of revision began to not work for me. I decided to meet with Anjana to get some feedback and ideas for a new method, and I was able to carry it through with me to Project 3. The reason why I picked Project 3 for my selected work sample isn’t just because I think it’s stronger than my first or second essay, but because of the change I went through to produce it. Something I love about comparing my first and final drafts of my essay is the change in my thought process that you can see. With my first draft, I was defending activism through technology. However, as I went on, I changed my mind. I let the prompt sit with me for a few days, and as I gave it more thought, I completely changed the direction of my essay. My overall process with revision also changed. With my first essays, I would write on and on and not go back and make any changes until I was completely finished writing. This quickly became messy and difficult, as I would end up with 2000+ words. Cutting down an essay by 500 words is extremely difficult, so I knew with this essay I had to change something. I thought about my words both before and after putting them on the page, and cut away pieces that weren’t essential, just as I learned from Anjana. I also made sure to pay attention to the rubric to make sure that I was following the prompt fully, and I think that change is visible through this work compared to my earlier pieces.
